Your imagination is your only limit. is a multifaceted amateur shooting sport in which participants compete with firearms typical of the taming of the Wild West: single-action revolvers; lever guns; and side by side double barrel, pump before 1899 or lever guns. The shooting competition is organized in a unique and characterized Old West style. The truly unique aspect of cowboy action shooting™ is the requirement for authentic historical or Western screen clothing. Each participant must adopt a filming pseudonym corresponding to a character or profession of the late 19th century or a Hollywood star of the western and develop the costume accordingly. American history buffs and serious shooters agree that the use of antique firearms, authentic costumes, unique targets and fast-paced action makes cowboy action shooting one of the most interesting shooting™ sports for spectators and participants. Original single-action revolvers manufactured before 1899, their replicas approved and single-action revolvers approved by the SASS. Shooters must use a .32 to .45 caliber pistol cartridge or a .36 to .45 caliber percussion cartridge.

The full SASS rules are included in the SASS Shooter Manual, which is www.sassnet.com available on the SASS website. SASS requires competitors to use firearms typical of the mid to late 19th century. Competition in a SASS match typically requires four weapons: two revolvers from a single period of action, a lever rifle in a medium-fire revolver caliber of the type used before 1899, and a side-by-side shotgun without an ejector, or an external hammer shotgun (Winchester `97 or replica) or a lever action rifle (Winchester 1887 or replica). The different firing categories listed below have different requirements for the revolvers used and the corresponding propellants. Games are usually counted as “total time” minus bonuses and plus penalties with the lowest time gain. Shooters are timed with electronic timers that record time for each level. Cowboy action shooting is the only shooting™ sport with a dress code. Participants wear some sort of Old West costume. Cowboy action shooter at its best. This is the west of your imagination. It recreates the times, books, movies and TV shows like The Big Sky, Stagecoach, High Noon, Hondo, Gunsmoke, etc. planted in your min. You will need two holsters, a belt and a shotgun belt or slide. Leather requirements may vary depending on the category photographed. A Buscadero belt or fall case with under-belt handles and two solid side cases are required for B Western, but not allowed in Classic Cowboy. In Classic Cowboy, at least part of the pistol grips must be above the belt and can consist of two strong sides or a strong side and a cross-pull holster. In all other categories, the handles can even be with or below the belt. The angle of the cross case shall not exceed 15° during wear. SASS is picky when it comes to firearms that point outside the 170° “down” range of range.

Therefore, Crossdraw shooters have to “dance” to make sure the weapon comes out of the holster and returns to a sharp range, not behind you. Several leather manufacturers now manufacture cowboy action shooting devices specifically designed for women`s curved belts with buckles in the back and shotgun buckles sewn onto the pistol belt. Before buying a platform, it is best to talk to other shooters. [All participants must wear goggles during shooting and hearing protection is recommended.] Any typical side-by-side shotgun of the time can be used with drawers but without automatic ejectors, with or without external hammer, with single or double trigger. For the whole family, it could be an afternoon or weekend with the best, most polite, and safety-conscious people you`ll ever meet. You will be with people who are willing to do anything to help you. You will be really happy to participate with them. Twenty percent of SASS members are women and ten percent are juniors under the age of seventeen. It`s a real sport, but without the competition that many of our sports have won at all costs.
