New Zealand students follow the same path as those from Australia, i.e. apply to us for a summer internship in your penultimate year to participate in our graduate program after graduation. We aim to provide consistent learning opportunities for everyone from graduates and junior lawyers to senior associate level practitioners and partners. Qualifying as a lawyer is an important step, but your growth and development at A&O will continue well beyond that. Applications to our Summer Internship Programme in Perth must include a cover letter, your curriculum vitae and the latest transcripts. If your most recent transcript was not approved by your university when you submitted your application, you can send it to us at australianrecruitment@allenovery.com as soon as it is available. We will review applications after the deadline and contact students who pass an interview. We run a summer internship program over a period of 10 weeks, during which you rotate twice in different practice groups. To give students the flexibility they need, we also offer five-week programs.
During this time, you will gain a unique insight into the nature of our work and the range of clients we work for. If you have legal, business or other work experience, think about what you have learned and observed. For example, you may have recommended that your manager improve a process. Using such examples in your application and interviews shows that you have learned from your experience and are ready to be asked about it. Our First Nations Legal Internship Program is designed to provide Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander law students with a commercial legal environment and the opportunity to explore the areas of practice in which we specialize. You will work with experienced lawyers and gain new knowledge as well as learning and development opportunities. This experience combines the learning of a number of experts with the application of this learning to real-world projects from day one. They will play an important role in our transformation and help us renew our solutions and services from all angles. Just as our summer internship program is a great way to get to know us, it`s a great way for us to get to know you. During your stay with us, we collect feedback on all our clerks, and many get an offer for graduates and start their legal careers with us.

Most of our graduate positions are filled through our internship programs, but if we need additional graduates, we will recruit graduates directly.
