In general, employees who meet certain residency requirements can exempt up to $104,100 (2018) of their international organizational income from federal tax. Positions from job families that require specialized education, such as physicians, require an advanced university degree, which cannot be replaced by a combination of college degree and experience. Positions in other fields, primarily language positions, may require only an undergraduate college diploma for minimum educational requirements. Excellent English skills are required to work at UNFPA. In rare cases, a good command of English and proficiency in the language of the workplace is sufficient.

Language requirements are always set out in a job description. Sales representatives are generally recruited internationally. Entry requirements are not as strict with regard to the level of education (a high school diploma may suffice); However, these positions require extensive field experience and mobility. Your work experience must be relevant to the position you are applying for. Each job may also have specific requirements, which are specified in the advertisement. Mid-career and higher positions require progressively responsible work experience. As you gain more relevant work experience, you can gradually apply for higher positions. The official languages of the United Nations are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.
