We ensure the safety of prison staff and individuals by maintaining an organized and disciplined operating system. All employees receive training on the principles of the American Correctional Association Code of Ethics to demonstrate our commitment to professional and compassionate service. Our employees carry out their duties and responsibilities with a high degree of integrity and respect for the value and dignity of human life. Under the supervision of the Assistant Secretary, the Community Executive Services Department is managed, including Legal Services, the Office of Victim Services, Internal Audit and the Offender Reintegration Office. The Office of the Deputy Secretary also represents the department`s support for charitable and philanthropic initiatives (e.g. Combined charity campaign, Keep Louisiana Beautiful, American Heart Association, Correctional Peace Officer Foundation, etc.). The Assistant Secretary is the department`s records administrator and the central point for all requests for public records, in addition to all other duties and duties assigned by the Secretary. The Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections is creating a safer Louisiana by offering correctional programs dedicated to protecting the public. the safety of our employees; the safety of incarcerated persons; services for victims of crime; and opportunities for positive behaviour change in individuals who are transferred to our care and/or supervision. We recognize the role of community participation and support in the successful achievement of our vision and mission.

By employing data-driven practices and complying with criminal justice reform legislation, we are confident of reducing recidivism in Louisiana. We are committed to working with the public to remove barriers and stigma for returning residents that hinder their successful reintegration into the community upon their return to our communities. Our objectives and priorities are based on our department`s commitment to public safety and rehabilitation and serve to guide our performance in achieving our mission. Under the direction of the Assistant Secretary, the Department of Probation and Probation functions like the Department of Community Services and consists of 21 district offices throughout the state and one headquarters in Baton Rouge. Probation and probation officers are certified by the Peace Officer Standards and Training Officers (POST) and supervise adults in Commerce custody who are released into the community on probation, probation, remission, house arrest, sick leave or supervised release. Officials also supervise formerly incarcerated individuals who move to Louisiana from other states. They ensure that persons under community control comply with the conditions of control, identify problems and solutions, make appropriate removals, provide general advice and make arrests when necessary to protect public safety. Officer duties include visiting people on probation or probation, primarily at home, at work, elsewhere in the community and in the office. The Department is actively involved in its efforts to reduce recidivism through various programs such as administrative penalties and day reporting centres. Secretary Le Blanc`s commitment to Louisiana`s justice system emphasizes the fundamental importance of public safety and enables all citizens to lead productive lives.

He regularly emphasizes that “reintegration” is an important factor in the department`s mission. Back to school is his passion. Le Blanc believes that establishing valuable, concrete professional, educational and life skills for incarcerated people is one of the keys to ensuring the fundamental mission of public safety. Reducing Louisiana`s number one incarceration rate (in the world) is a tall order, but Le Blanc`s enthusiasm for people who have been incarcerated in the past or are succeeding now is the only motivation this leader needs. CID`s initiatives include, but are not limited to, reviewing and making recommendations on recruitment and selection practices and policies; professional development and training; and areas that affect opportunities for inmates. DCI provides mandatory diversity training to all employees. Under the direction of the Chief of Operations, the Department of Correctional Services provides administrative oversight and support to the operational programmes of adult institutions and provides technical assistance to local prisons. The Chief of Operations leads and directs the Division`s operational audit teams, which conduct audits of all adult facilities, unsecured contract facilities and work release centres in the community, and assist all entities in resolving issues related to maintaining American Correctional Association (ACA) accreditation. OAS staff participate in the administrative appeal and disciplinary appeal processes, review and recommend that inmates be absent from work, and maintain the central office`s ACA accreditation. There are eight adult facilities under the broad authority of the Chief of Operations. We achieve our vision through safe prison operations and community correctional programs, the development and implementation of effective criminal justice policies for Louisiana, and the provision of rehabilitation options to incarcerated individuals who support their successful transition into the community.

Divisional officers also provide investigative services to criminal justice decision-makers, including judges, as well as to the Pardons Board and the Probation Committee. They also oversee the collection of victim compensation, monitoring fees and various criminal justice costs. The Secretary, James M.
