It`s always a pleasure when a member of our team is invited to write for Resolution – First for Family Law`s The Review magazine. The next issue will feature a paper by Senior Associate Charlotte Plowman summarizing the action of the keynote address at last month`s annual conference. The second best for those who did not have the chance to participate in person this year. Has it become more difficult to silence journalists with defamation lawsuits? The Supreme Court has dismissed the trial of a Kazakh company against journalist Tom Burgis, author of “Kleptopia”. The phenomenon of foreign individuals or companies taking advantage of the system`s favourable defamation laws and high financial risks in England and Wales is sometimes referred to as “defamation tourism” or even “lawfare”. Some fear that he has allowed Russian oligarchs in particular to crack down on criticism. Joshua Rozenberg asks if this case could mark the end of this trend. Class actions, or class actions as they are called in the UK, are new on this side of the Atlantic. How do they operate and could millions of passengers benefit from lawsuits against certain railway undertakings? An unnoticed part of the Police, Crimes, Convictions and Courts Act would criminalize trespassing and “residence or intent to be in or with a vehicle on land without consent.” Gypsies, Roma and Travellers say it threatens their way of life and makes nomadism illegal. But the government argues that this would prevent “unlimited misery for local communities without consequences.” Joshua hears arguments from both sides.
Producer: Arlene Gregorius Researchers: Octavia Woodward and Imogen SerwotkaSon: Rod Farquhar Production Coordinators: Maria Ogundele and Jacqui Johnson Editors: Hugh Levinson I would like to thank the fabulous team at Resolution – First for Family Law for their invitation to deliver the keynote address on Friday and for the warm welcome I received at this very first resolution conference. I particularly like to repay the applause I received from the audience. Having the opportunity to speak openly and honestly with you about #ResCon22 issues that affect our professions – whether we are lawyers, lawyers, legal executives or judges or one of the cogs trying to run the broken machine that is our family justice system – has been a privilege. Speaking on a platform with Judge Howard Kemp, always punctual and healthy, and hearing Juliet Harvey give a welcome and acceptance speech that was addressed to everyone in the room was a pleasure. Leaving the stage to read such beautiful comments on Twitter was wonderful. Thank you. I highlight the organizations I`ve talked about in this article so that anyone who wants to explore more and do more to create real diversity and inclusivity for our professions can connect the dots. Diversity includes socio-economic groups, gender, race, religion, neurodiversity, and disintegration. We all have a chance to make a difference, and a small effort of many can move a mountain. It`s easier than you think, look at the bar deck and bring [Dis]Ability to the bar @ndinlaw NeuroDiversityInLaw speakers to inspire schools #diversity #law #neurodiversity #neurodivergent #disabilityawareness And with everything you do at work, it`s a must to be polite and polite, if not friendly. We can`t afford to leave someone behind while trying to do more for more. Have a great week.
Happy New Year!. Maybe we`ll see you in #ResCon23 🙂 #thankyou I`m glad I was invited to speak at this event. This will be my third time on stage. Now ITT – The Institute of Travel and Tourism feels like a family. There are a fantastic number of speakers that I can only listen to and learn – Jess Phillips MP, Lord Adonis and so many others. The best thing about public speaking is to see what connections can be made between different professional worlds. The older we get in our own, the harder it can be to see ourselves as others see us. That is why we should not have compartmentalized mentalities.
We reach each other. We are looking for different perspectives. We welcome diversity. We include others as we wish to be welcomed. #ITTConference 23. The countdown begins 🙂 #publicspeaking #travel #diversityandinclusion #istanbulturkey It will be a real treat. It is always a pleasure to be part of the INSTITUTE OF TRAVEL AND TOURISM(THE) family. While our work environments are the bond that binds us together, it is that we work with people from all walks of life and beliefs. We know we receive much more in return than we #communitymatters #makingadifferencetogether #tourismindustry #lawyerlife #travelandtourism #people Joshua Rozenberg speaks with intellectual property speaker Dr. Mathilde Pavis.
Always interesting, presents legal issues in context and in an informative way.
